Imagine what is possible when employees #OPTin to your Vision. We imagine that EVERYONE has a light, a spirit, a StarWithin them.
“Imagine what is possible when employees #OPTin to your Vision.”
That is the invitation we extend to everyone in all of our communications; our website, business cards, promotional postcards, etc.
What do WE imagine? In our Vision, we imagine that ‘Everyone Can Shine @ Work‘.
We believe that everyone has a light, a spirit, a ‘Star Within’ them from which they can shine @ work (and @ home).
Right Roles, Teams, Organizations
In our Vision, Everyone Can Shine (@ Work and @ Home), by playing the right roles for the right team(s) for the right organization.
Our reason #3 for using #OPTin? Because O-P-T includes ‘Everyone’ @ Work, from Organizational Leaders, to individual People to Team Managers… O-P-T…. #OPTin.
(Issues No. 1 and 2 of Engaging Thoughts, available on our Blog (Engaging Thoughts), explain our reasons #1 and #2 for using #OPTin.)
To Facilitate Engagement: Visioning Systems
Our StarWithin Engagement and Fulfillment System incorporates ‘Visioning Systems’, systematic processes for the development of Visions for Organizations (O), individual People (P) and Teams (T).
Articulating these Visions enables the most important self-interests of each of these components of an Organization to be made identifiable, tangible and communicable.
Once they can be communicated, these self-interests as expressed in those Visions can then be recognized and honoured by all involved.
Connecting one’s Vision to another creates win-win-win relationships between the Organizational Leaders, the individual People and the Team Managers … our basis for engagement and fulfillment, … O-P-T, #OPTin.
Vision: Idealistic and Realistic
Our work developing ‘Visioning Systems’ led us to recognize that an inspiring, empowering Vision needs to be both idealistic and realistic. In fact, our favorite quote about Organizational Vision reflects and confirms that belief:
Burt Nanus in his book, Visionary Leadership, wrote: “I can think of no more powerful engine for driving an organization forward than an EXCITING, WORTHWHILE and REALISTIC VISION of the future, widely shared’. (Our capitalization of key words).
We agree with Professor Nanus. An inspiring vision needs to contain all three elements identified in his quote; exciting, worthwhile and realistic. Exciting and worthwhile are idealistic. The word Realistic stands on its own.
Our Own Idealism/Realism
Our own Idealism is to believe that Everyone Can Shine (@work and @ home). That is our exciting and worthwhile, a Vision that the StarWithin Engagement and Fulfillment System facilitates turning into a reality for everyone’s benefit.
Our realism acknowledges that People can only shine if the Team is healthy and the Organization is strong.
People can be excited about their work and be pursuing a worthwhile cause but if the Team they are part of is unhealthy and/or the Organization is financially weak the light inside each Person will, indeed, fade away. Eventually no one will shine. We never forget that.
Life Really Is A Journey
Another realism that we hold close to our hearts is that Life truly is a Journey.
Like traveling through a mountain range Life will bring us ups and downs, ins and outs, days of 2 steps forwards, other days of 1 step backwards.
Our Visioning Systems have an initial process to help individual People achieve ‘Fast Acting Results’, producing a powerful ‘Guiding Star’ that within a few hours can set a Person on the right course towards the right destination for his/her ‘Life’s Journey @ Work’.
Knowing the right destination to set a course towards @ work can be invaluable. Recognizing that the journey towards that destination will echo the same trials and tribulations as we experience in the rest of our lives can be equally precious.
Gallup’s Nod To Reality
We have aligned our beliefs with the Gallup publication: State of the American Workplace.
Our quotes that follow represent to us the report’s nod to the reality that engagement must go beyond employees being ‘happy’ to also ensuring that organizations are also strong and successful.
… just measuring workers’ satisfaction or happiness levels and catering to their wants often fail to achieve the underlying goal of employee engagement: improved business outcomes.
Organizations have more success with engagement and improve business performance when they treat employees as stakeholders of their future and the company’s future. (Page 67)
About The StarWithin Engagement and Fulfillment System
We have developed and deployed the StarWithin Engagement and Fulfillment System to provide processes, education and tools to help Organizations, People and Teams to first, clearly express their self-interests (Visions), and then to tangibly connect these Visions one to another.
We publish Engaging Thoughts with an invitation for those interested in Employee Engagement to share their own thoughts about this important subject. Find out more about our StarWithin System at starwithinsystem.com or connect with us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
